Day 18: Promises of Prayer – Nothing Separates Us from God’s Love

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Reflect

What a powerful, encouraging, and motivating promise from God!

The reality of our experience is that life can often be difficult and we face many challenges and hardships. We will all experience pain throughout our lives; the promise is not that we will live a pain-free life. We’ve also each made decisions that have hurt ourselves and others which can leave us feeling guilty, shameful, or full of regret. We wonder how could God ever love us because of what we’ve done, but the promise we read today is that NOTHING can ever separate us from God’s love that was revealed to us through Christ. That his death was for us, he was raised to life for us, and he now intercedes for us.

The price of our sin has been paid in full for those that are in Christ!

Pray

Let us pray together the prayer we learned during the Gospel series:

Jesus, thank you that there is nothing I can do that would make you love me more, and nothing I have done that makes you love me less. Your presence and approval are all I need for everlasting joy. As you have been to me, so I will be to others. As I pray, I’ll measure your compassion by the cross and your power by the resurrection. Amen.
