What If Jesus Was Serious?
If you’re a parent, you can probably relate to having to use the “serious voice.” Whether it is beckoning your children to clean their room, get better grades, followed by “I’m serious!” You communicate this to let them know you mean business, and we do this in other relationships, too in some form or another.
There is a book by Skye Jathani entitled, “What if Jesus was Serious?” that walks through Jesus’ most famous sermon in Matthew 5-7. We are going to go along with that book while focusing specifically on the first few verses of that sermon, otherwise known as “The Beatitudes.” These are simply a series of “blessings” that Jesus communicates to those who are suffering, outcast, isolated, and struggling, and they contain some very profound concepts that influence the rest of Jesus’ ministry, too. So during this series, we’re going to look at some of those most important, shocking, and life-changing words that Jesus ever said. No matter where you are at in your spiritual journey, you are going to find this series challenging, encouraging, and also, enlightening.
